Hit and Run Victim's Family Speaks Out

Arasely Vara is the aunt of Luis Adrian Hernandez, the man who was hit and killed early Sunday morning near the intersection of 50th and L.
The family says Hernandez had been pepper sprayed and hit in the head with a glass bottle before leaving the La Kumbia night club. That's why he was walking down the street when police say he was hit by a Chevy Blazer pickup.
Vara is angry with the woman accused of failing to stop and render aid after an accident. She says Jessica Tanguma is disrespecting the family's intelligence.
"I don't want nothing to happen to this girl, but don't insult my intelligence and tell me that you don't know what you hit," Vara said.
She said that for Tanguma's lawyer to assert that Tanguma did not know she hit a person is ridiculous.
And that what she calls lies only make the situation worse.
"If you cannot speak out the truth, then don't put lies behind it. You know what i mean? If you cannot come forth and say, 'I'm sorry I hit your nephew.' that's fine. Don't come up with the truth, but then don't put lies behind it and say, "I didn't see him,'" Vara said.
