A fugitive in a Lubbock murder was brought to justice Tuesday thanks to a collaborative effort by Lubbock Police, Mexican law enforcement and the FBI.

35-year-old Joel Saucedo was extradited to Lubbock from Mexico.

He arrived in Lubbock around 3:45 Tuesday afternoon after being on the run for almost eight years.

Saucedo is accused of beating to death 45-year-old Jose Neri at the Corta Vista Apartments back in November 2001.

Mexican authorities arrested Saucedo in April.

"He was identified as the suspect, he had fled to Mexico and it took us eight years, but working with the District Attorney's office and the Mexican government, we were finally able to track him down and have him arrested," Lubbock Police Detective Rey Martinez says.

Saucedo was arraigned by a Lubbock County Judge Tuesday afternoon on murder charges.
