Sheriff David Gutierrez officially gave his resignation notice today.  He sent a letter to County Judge Tom Head and the four county commissioners.

So now, commissioners can officially begin the search for a new sheriff.

Commissioners say the job will be posted for about five days and the whole process could take anywhere from two to twelve weeks.

Commissioners say several factors will weigh into their choice of an inteim sheriff.

You have to be a jack of all trades and be able to do it all and be a good manager, a good administrator and know the laws that we have to go by," said Commissioner Mark Heinrich.

Kelly Rowe, Kevin Overstreet, Ronnie O'Neal, and Don Carter have announced, they'd like to be considered for the position.
