The White House has released a transcript of President Obama's controversial back to school speech, one day before it's set to air.
The 18 minute speech is scheduled to air at 11:00 Tuesday morning, but several local school districts including Lubbock Cooper, Frenship and Lubbock Independent have decided against showing it live to their students.
Critics say the speech could be interpreted to push a liberal agenda, so the White House released a copy of the speech a day early, hoping to quiet critics and ease parents' concerns.
In the speech, the President encourages students to set goals and stay in school.
Local parents we talked to say it's a message their children should hear.
"Stay in school, work hard, you can do anything you want to do. That's something our kids need to hear I think," Lubbock resident, Jason Gandy, says.
"I have different political views than what he subscribes to, but this is pretty innocuous," Lubbock resident, Eric Caswell, says.
The speech with stream live on the White House website.
