A Lubbock County man shot two dogs on his property Tuesday. He says he feared for the safety of his grandchildren and pets.
One of those dogs has died. The incident raised questions about when and where a homeowner can fire a gun to protect his property.
Officials with the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office say the man didn't do anything illegal, because he lives in Lubbock County and not within city limits.
But Major Cody Scott says it's always better to call the Sheriff first.
"We would certainly recommend calling us first and letting us try to deal with the problem just to protect everybody involved whether it's the property owner or the owner of the animals or maybe even just an innocent bystander," Major Scott said.
