A suspect in the murders of Kay Harrleson and Peggy Merimon has been arrested.

Lubbock Police arrested Mickey Patterson in Oregon early Wednesday afternoon.

He's now charged with two counts of murder and awaits extradition back to Lubbock.

Both Merimon and Harrelson went missing on August 9, 2006.

Harrelson's body was later found, but to this day, no trace of Merimon has been located.

The case was presented to a Lubbock Grand Jury last week, where they decided to indict Patterson.

Warrants were then issued for his arrest.

Lubbock County District Attorney Matt Powell says the indictments were sealed because of the nature of the case and Patterson's location.

We're told he's been in Oregon for quite some time.

"All we wanted to do is get to this point where a Lubbock County jury can hear the case and decide whether he is guilty or not, but we're happy that we are at this point now, where we can start the next process in this case and hopefully get some resolution for the families," Lubbock County District Attorney Matt Powell says.

Powell says it could be a few days, weeks or even months before Patterson is back in Lubbock.

It all depends on whether he waives extradition.

If he does, he could be booked in the Lubbock County Jail in just a few days.
