Health officials in Lubbock say flu has come early to Lubbock and it has doctors swamped.  Flu cases are not usually seen in the Hub City until the end of November or mid December, but doctors are seeing an increasing number of patients with flu symptoms now, including the H1N1 virus.

Officials confirm at least one person has died of the H1N1 virus here in Lubbock, but encourage people to stay calm.

"Every year people die of the flue, we have had deaths in the nation, in the state and now in Lubbock from H1N1 by and large unless you have an underlying health condition, H1N1 is not life endangering," said Greg Bruce, VP of UMC Health Systems.

Greg Bruce added, whether you have seasonal flu or H1N1, treatment is the same.

"Allow your body to use its own immune system to battle the virus, drink lots of fluid, keep yourself hydrated."
