Crews cleaned up a massive sewer leak in Lubbock and want to make sure everyone knows our water remains safe to drink. The sewer line break happened yesterday evening near East 14th street and sent more than 100-thousand gallons of water and sewage into the Canyon Lakes system. Workers were able to fix the break and stop the leak. Today, officials confirmed our drinking water is not contaminated and the lakes are safe, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be careful. "This much discharge that goes into the Canyon lakes is not in concentrations that are extremely hazardous or harmful and will not make it to the Buffalo Springs Lake or Ransom Canyon," said Aubrey Spear, Director of Water Utilities in Lubbock. Spear added that environmental testing will continue in the area for the rest of the week.
