Economic leaders are in the Hub City talking about Lubbock's role in an international corridor.

The trade corridor's all part of a nine state alliance called Ports-to-Plains. It gives companies direct access to international markets by building up interstates and roads from Mexico to Canada. Lubbock and Highway 87 will be a crucial part of that corridor, inticing businesses to build in Lubbock.

"In a community like us that's reliant on agriculture, on industry, we have to have access to markets - world markets - to be successful and to compete economically," says Ports-to-Plains President Michael Reeves.

The Overton Hotel and Conference Center is hosting the event this year. The Ports-to-Plains conference opens to the public Thursday.
