A stabbing in Central Lubbock leaves two people dead and another injured.

27-year-old Ruben Garcia is in custody after Police say he brutally stabbed two people to death.

Lubbock Police responded to the 2000 block of 64th Street just after 2:00 Thursday morning.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found 28-year-old Rudy Vela and 27-year-old Jessica Hernandez stabbed to death.

36-year-old Rachael Diaz also suffered stab wounds.

Diaz was treated and later released from University Medical Center.

Shortly after the stabbings, Police located Ruben Garcia walking in the 6100 block of Avenue S, where he was taken into custody.

Police believe the altercation between Garcia and his victims started over a pool tournament at a bar and progressed to the house where the stabbings took place.

"The suspect apparently had felt like he had been disrespected or something of that nature and alcohol was involved. We do believe the suspect was intoxicated and we do believe a lot of people at the party were intoxicated. It was late into the evening and tempers apparently got flared and out of hand. At some point, the altercation turned physical," Lubbock Police Captain Greg Stevens says.

Garcia is charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

He is being held at the Lubbock County Jail.
