They also say with the holiday help newly hired at many stores, they feel like they have a few more eyes on things. Plus, officials say there are some things shoppers can do to make sure the holidays stay bright.

"Be aware of their surroundings; be aware of all the packages and family members and children with them. If you have a lot of packages, while you're out shopping, maybe make a trip out to the car, put them out of sight in the trunk, or the very back of the car. Keep your keys out and handy and easily available to get into your car,” says Beth Bridges of the South Plains Mall.

Mall officials also say they are here for you. So, if you ever feel uncomfortable while shopping at the mall, feel free to contact a security officer or store employee for help.
