Covenant is dressing up for a big gala this week that's benefitting a great cause.  Friday, October 30th, the Covenant Health System Foundation will host "The Beat Goes On" that will raise money for their Primary Stroke Center.  The Center will make Covenant the leading West Texas hospital for the treatment of stroke patients.  One floor of the hospital will become a designated stroke unit.  The money raised at the gala will go towards the education and training of medical staff, first responders, and it will provide greater awareness about strokes to the the community.

"What is so important is educating that time is brain and knowing what those symptoms are and getting here and seeking medical attention as soon as possible is crucial," said Nicole Hines, Stroke Coordinator.

The even is sold out, but donations are still welcome.  According to the CDC, strokes are the third leading cause of death in the U.S. behind heart disease and cancer.
