Halloween is known for being a spooky holiday, for for parents, it can be frightening for very different reasons. Parents we spoke to had many concerns from sex offenders to drunk drivers. So this year, many are choosing alternative Halloween activites for their children, like "Trunk or Treat" to keep their kids safe. Another concern is H1N1, but health officials say as long as kids follow a few simple rules they should be okay.
"What you need to do is make sure your kids don't touch their eyes, nose, or mouth and I know that's hard, but you have to just keep reminding them. Have them wash their hands constantly and of course screen any candy that they're going to eat before they eat it," said Bridget Fulkenberry, Public Health Coordinator for the Health Department.
Health officials also recommend staying away from less hygenic Halloween traditions, like bobbing for apples.
