A tragic Thursday for the entire military community.
Perhaps the most disturbing news for soldiers like Wade Wilkes, the shooter in the Fort Hood massacre was a soldier himself.
"You will have soldiers, for whatever reason, because they lose control, because they don't want to re-deploy back to Iraq or Afghanistan, or something along that line, but when I heard soldiers were involved and it was soldiers on soldiers, to me that's just very odd," Army veteran, Wade Wilkes, says.
Wilkes tells us he spent years on military bases like Fort Hood.
"The idea that someone could pentrate that base and get on base, it's very possible," Wilkes says.
According to Wilkes, security on these bases may not be what you or I think, though he says security has probably increased since the terrorist attacks on 9/11.
Early reports indicate the suspect in Thursday's deadly shootings was set to be deployed overseas in the near future.
Wilkes believes that could be the sole reason behind the Fort Hood tragedy.
"You are a band of brothers and you may have very extremist views. Just because you wear a uniform does not mean that you don't have views that are polarizing to what current policy is," Wilkes says.
