Officer Shoots Pit Bull

Another pit bull attack in Lubbock, this time though the victim walks away fine, and the pit bull ends up dead.
Police officers responded to a call on 37th St. Monday evening. The officer on scene found the pit bull's mouth completely engulfing another smaller dog's head. The officer felt the dog was threatening neighbors nearby, as well as that small dog, so instead of waiting for Animal Control to capture the pit, he shot it.
"When there's time they always try to call Animal Control to be on scene, and to try and help them out on those things, but sometimes there's just not time to wait. And we're certainly not gonna require the officers to wait to be attacked," says Captain Greg Stevens with the Lubbock Police Department.
Police say they'll often use a rifle filled with bean bag rounds, or even a taser, before resorting to deadly force on a dog.
