Scammers target Kenny's Korral owners after they place one of their cows up for sale in a popular classified ad.

Kenny Ellis and his wife Bev own the exotic animal farm Kenny's Korral, just south of Lubbock.

They placed an ad in the Thrifty Nickel to sell one of their Scottish Highlander cows for $400.

They got an email from a woman who wanted to buy the cow and was going to send the money for the animal, as well as extra money they were instructed to wire to the man who was going to ship the cow.

A few days later, the Ellis' received two checks, each for $850 and that's when Bev Ellis says she knew something wasn't right.

"She wanted me, then, to wire the $1300 to San Antonio, Texas for the shipper. Well, I was suspicious, so I got online and checked the money orders and sure enough they were bogus. One was cashed October 7th in the amount of $26.22 and the other one was cashed on October 9th in the amount of $446," Bev Ellis says.

Luckily, the Ellis' didn't lose any money in the scam.

They did file a complaint with the FBI.
