Lubbock Judge Accused of Favoritism

A Lubbock attorney is asking an elected judge to step down from the bench.

Attorney Rod Hobson believes Judge Jim Bob Darnell should be removed from all cases involving the Lubbock District Attorney's Office. In this motion, Hobson says Darnell violated public trust by stepping in and getting his son out of a DWI. Darnell's son Jared was involved in a one-car traffic accident back in July 2008. Police reports blame the accident on Jared Darnell's intoxication, saying he was over the legal limit. Police never arrested Darnell for that DWI charge, and Hobson believes it's because of Judge Darnell's close relationship with the District Attorney's Office that his son never served time.

"The idea is that no matter who stands before a judge, the judge needs to judge them the same way--- the mayor's son the same as a homeless person," says Hobson.

We did hear from the District Attorney's Office. They say all these claims are not true, and they'll explain much more during the hearing scheduled Wednesday morning.
