Fireworks for New Year's

The County Commissioners Court agreed that a fireworks ban is not necessary this year.

The Court says, due to the wet summer and the rainy weather we've had this December, people can stock up on their favorite fireworks.

That doesn't mean people can be reckless.

"If your out shooting fireworks," said Assistant County Criminal Attorney John Grace, "there are cotton modules out in the field. That would be a real good time to fire off your fireworks somewhere else. You don't want to risk burning up thousands and thousands of dollars of cotton. If you cause a fire, your responsible for it."

People in the county will also be allowed to continue burning trash outside the city.
