More and more families are struggling to pay their utility bills during this cold winter and tough economy, but luckily there's a program keeping homes warm and the lights on.  Project Helping Hand sponsored by LP&L in partnership with Catholic Family Services reaches out to those in need to pay their utility bills.  The money comes from donations made by other LP&L customers.  This month alone 11 families have received help and more than $1,200 in bills have been paid.

"The process is really simple and we offer two different options," said Chris Sims, with LP&L. "One is a customer can pledge an amount to donate each month or maybe a one time pledge and the other is a customer can do a round up and that is where we just round up their bill to the next dollar amount."

"It's awesome.  I mean I was struggling at the time and my bills were outrageous and I was on a fixed income so it was a blessing to have a little bit of assistance," said Janie Littlefield who received help from Helping Hand with her utility bills.

Donations are still needed as more families seek assistance.  If you'd like to help just log onto www.lpandl.com  or if you need some helping paying your bills you can call Catholic Family Services at 765-8475.
