Jessie Herrera confessed to fatally stabbing ex girlfriend Refugia 'Massy' Montes twice in the back three years ago. This charge - combined with five previous convictions - led the judge to give Herrera a life sentence. Inside the courtroom Tuesday, Montes's family told Herrera he got what he deserved.
"We were pleased. I was hoping he'd get the electric chair. But of all the womens he's tormented we were hoping he should have been gotten off the street a long time ago," says Montes's brother Tommy Avalos.
Herrera's attorney says they were ready to go to trail, but his client wanted to plead guilty instead. He thinks that was Herrera's way of showing remorse for his actions.
