Scammers may be at it again.  One local couple said they've been targeted as grandparents.  This is how it worked.  The scammers called Jerry and Mary King twice pretending to be their granddaughter Sarah by using her first name.  The female caller claimed to be in trouble in Canada and needed money, but the King's said they didn't fall for it because the scammer used their granddaughter's maiden name, King, and did not know her married name.

"I totally believe it was a scam because her voice wasn't exactly like Sarah's and Sarah would've been very emotional.  She would've cried desperately for money if she was that desperate," said Mary King, granddmother who answered the scammer's phone calls.

Nan Campbell with the Better Business Bureau said one red flag is if a caller asks you to wire them money.  She also recommended writing down any information from the conversation, like the date, time, caller's location and if possible the number they're calling from, then contact the B.B.B. http://southplains.bbb.org/
