Crude oil hit a hundred dollars a barrel this new year, and that mean gas prices are still on the rise.

This week's AAA survey revealed gas prices jumped another 9 cents from last week.

The state average today is $2.93 cents a gallon, and Lubbock falls right around that number.

Experts say a lot of people don't realize that these prices don't just hurt at the pump.

They affect everything else we consume.

"There are literally thousands of everyday products that we use that are based in someway on oil," said Terry McIntruff, dean of Texas Tech's Center for Energy Commerce.

That includes anything from plastic bottles to nike tennis shoes.

"You also have the transportation of those items from China or wherever to the store," said McIntruff.

The lowest price of gas found in Lubbock today was $2.82 per gallon.

The highest $3.21 cents per gallon.
