Lubbock, TX – The Red Raiders (9-5) open conference play on
Saturday, January 12 at Oklahoma
State University.
The 12:30 PM (CT) game will be televised on CBS. Craig Bolerjack will call the
play-by-play. Dan Bonner will provide the game analysis.
Mark
Finkner will call the courtside action along with Corky Oglesby as analyst
on
the Texas Tech Sports Network local stations KQBR-FM 99.5 and KKAM-AM 1340. Sirius
Radio will air the game on channel 122.
The Cowboys have 27-12
lead in the series which began on January 1, 1937. OSU leads the series 16-4 in
Stillwater and
5-2 on neutral courts. Each team has six wins in Lubbock. The Red Raiders and the Cowboys
split their two-game series last season with each squad winning on their home court.
On February 10, OSU edged Texas Tech in two overtimes, 93-91. The Red Raiders
then won at home on February 24 by the same margin, 59-57.
OSU
is 9-5 for the season and has three players averaging double figures in James Anderson
(16.8), Terrel Harris (11.3), and Marcus Dove (10.5). Anderson’s 16.8 ppg ranks fourth among
conference players.
Texas
Tech also ended non-conference play at 9-5. The Red Raiders also have three
players averaging double-figures with Martin Zeno (16.5), Alan Voskuil (13.1),
and John Roberson (12.7). Martin Zeno’s 16.5 ppg is fifth among conference players
while Alan Voksuil leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage at
.600 (33-for-55).
John
Roberson, the freshman from Plano High School (Plano,
TX), earned his second Rookie of
the Week honor after helping the Red Raiders extend their win streak to three
games with victories over Lamar (79-77) and UTEP (75-68). The freshman guard averaged
18.5 points in the two contests, starting with 21 points and seven assists
versus Lamar. He followed that effort with 18 points and four assists against
the Miners. For the week, Roberson shot 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from the field,
including 6-of-11 (.545) from three-point range. He also connected on all seven
free throws. He is the third-leading scorer for Texas Tech, averaging 12.7
points per game.
Texas Tech won their three
homes games at the United Spirit Arena during the holiday season. On December
29, the Red Raiders topped Northwestern
State (95-71) and then
edged Lamar on New Year’s Day, 79-77. Texas Tech beat the UTEP Miners on
January 5, 75-68.
Texas Tech held a one
point lead at the half and outscored UTEP by seven points in the second half,
earning a 75-68 win in their final non-conference game of the 2007-2008 season.
Martin Zeno led both teams in scoring with 25 points. John Roberson scored 16
points as Alan Voskuil added 13 points. UTEP’s Marvin Kilgore had 22 points
with teammates Tavaris Watts and Randy Culpepper each scoring 10 points.
Texas
A&M will be next conference opponent for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders and
the Aggies will face each other on Wednesday, January 16 in the United Spirit
Arena at 8:30 PM (CT). The game will air on ESPN2.
