Red light cameras are under review by citizen committees.

The Citizens Photographic Traffic Signal Enforcement Committee and the Citizens Traffic Commission met at City Hall on Tuesday.  The groups were reviewing information about red light cameras.  The cameras went up in June and since have been under careful observation by the city.

The stats show total crashes are up at red light camera intersections; namely rear-end crashes.  However, total injuries are down about 13% since 2005.

The groups must make a recommendation to the Lubbock City Council on whether to give the cameras another chance, or take them down.

Both committees will meet again within the next few weeks to discuss the cameras.  They will most likely make their recommendations by the end of February.
