Late Game Heroics Get Tech Past Wayland Baptist, 6-4

Tech`s Blair Wilkins hit a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Red Raiders past Wayland Baptist, 6-4, on Tuesday. Tech scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding 4-0 lead. But a fielding error by Willie Rueda led to four runs for the Pioneers, tying the game. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Rueda redeemed himself by hitting a single. That set Wilkins up for the home run. Randy Gattis (3-1) got the win for Tech. Tech`s game with Wayland Baptist was scheduled earlier this week after Sunday`s game against Texas was rained out. The Red Raiders (18-7, 1-1) return to conference play with a three-game series against Texas A&M at College Station, beginning on Friday.
