COLLEGE STATION - A fielding error in the ninth turned into a heartbreaker for the Tech baseball team.
What appeared to be a sure double-play turned into disaster when first baseman James Leverton overthrew shortstop Kyle Martin, allowing two runs to score and give the Aggies a 5-4 win over the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders took an early lead when Matt Smith scored in the top of the first. They would score again in the fourth when Kyle Martin crossed the plate.
Brian capps hit a two-run home run in the sixth, to give the Red Raiders a 4-0 lead.
The Aggies came back, beginning with home runs in the seventh and eigth. In the ninth, Tech reliever Randy Gattis walked the first two batters. He was replaced with Aaron Odom, who loaded the bases. Odom then walked in a run. That set up the fielding gaffe.
Odom (1-2) got the loss for Tech.
The Red Raiders (19-9, 2-4) play Texas Wesleyan on Wednesday.
