A famous Crosbyton museum is auctioning off one of their most prized possessions this weekend hoping to stay afloat financially.

Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum, owned by Joe Taylor, is known for its "creationism" theories.  A years- long legal battle with a former colleague has since left Taylor in debt over $100,000 dollars.

Now, they are auctioning off a dinosaur Mastodon head at Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas on Sunday.  They hope the car-size fossil will fetch enough money to get them out of deep water.  Taylor's friend and colleague Henry Johnson says if Taylor loses his museum, he'll be devastated.

"Well it would destroy Joe's life.  It would take one of the only draws that Crosbyton has.  And take away the opportunity to really advance the field of paleontology."

The decade-old museum will be shut down and it's contents sold in February if the auction doesn't cover Taylor's debts.
