Colder weather is on the way, and if your pet is left outside it could be deadly.  Folks at the animal shelter say leaving your pet outside without shelter is considered animal cruelty.

Outdoor pets must have a shelter to shield them from the wind and harsh temperatures.  If they don't, a court order could be issued to take your pet away.  Veterinarians say, more importantly, they could get frostbite or worse.  Those freezing temperatures could be lethal.

Dr. Wendy Becker:
"They're just like us, they need insulation from the weather just like we need coats when we go outside.  And just like us, they can suffer from hypothermia and frostbite as well if they're left outside without any shelter available to them."

If you see an animal with no shelter, you're asked to call the animal shelter for an investigation.  Their number is 775-2058.
