With hall of fame credentials, every one of Bob Knight's decisions is a national story, especially his decision to call it a career.

"I had to watch ESPN for an hour to see what everyone thought about it, and if it were actually true," said Akeem Akimpelu, a Tech student.

In the blink of an eye, the national media has descended on Lubbock.

"A lot of people have great regard for him and what he has done for the game of basketball, so it is a huge deal," said ESPN's Holly Rowe.

Red Raiders say the recognition is well deserved, but many would rather have the general back on the court.

"I'd rather [the attention] be for when he broke the record for wins, not him leaving." said Sam Cochran.

"It used to be Sheryl Swoops, then Marsha Sharp, and now it's Bob Knight. I think it remains to be seen who you'll think of first next," said Rowe.
