ANIMALCRUELTY-VO2008-02-07-1202438406.jpgA Lubbock man arrested on an outstanding warrant is now suspected of animal cruelty.

Sheriff's deputies arrived at the man's home in West Lubbock County to serve the warrant....and noticed several dogs that looked malnourished.  Deputies then phoned Animal Services to take the dogs for an evaluation.

Neighbors and family of the man say a woman they've never seen before, was watching the house yesterday and accused the man of starving and fighting his dogs, who are all pit bulls.

But his cousin says, he loves animals and deserves to get them back.

Kevin Overstreet, City of Lubbock Animal Services:
"The animals, at least most of them with the exception of one or two, appear to have not been eating very well and their ribs were showing and stuff like that."

Cousin of Man Arrested:
"I'm telling you, those are like his kids...Those are his only kids."

A veterinarian evaluated the dogs earlier today.  Those reports will be submitted to the Sheriff's Department, which will decide whether to submit the case to the District Attorney's office.
