Rumored School Shooting

Rumors of a school shooting has several area high schools on alert today. Monterey High school and Lubbock Cooper both had rumors of students threatening to shoot others.Parents and students tell us, there were officers in every classroom and patrolling the hallways. At Monterey this morning, several parents came to take their kids out of school.
And at our TV station, we received numerous calls about the rumors. But Lubbock ISD officials say, it was just that....a rumor. But parents say, they take any threat seriously.
Nancy Sharp, L.I.S.D.:
"It started out first the rumor being at Monterey high school, and then it spread to others, it is absolutely that...A rumor. Parents need to be calm, everything is under control."
Josh Ziegenfuss, concerned parent:
"I figured I better not take that chance, so I better come up here and get him just to be on the safe side. Better to be safe than sorry."
Lubbock school officials say they do have a plan in place for emergencies...and, always have officers on campus for safety.
