Gas Prices Troubling School Districts

By: Danielle Todesco
Updated: March 10, 2008
SCHOOLBUSGAS-VO2008-03-10-1205204154.jpgThe fuel prices are of course affecting everyone and now it's putting a crunch on school districts.

Frenship I.S.D. and Lubbock I.S.D. are both stepping up their budgeting for higher fuel prices.  They say they've allotted thousands more this year than last year to accommodate more than 3 dollars a gallon for diesel.  Frenship has budgeted $275,000 dollars for their annual fuel and Lubbock has budgeted $600,000.

Now Traci Robertson at L.I.S.D. says if the prices continue to rise they'll be in trouble.

"If gas prices stay the same as they are today, which our last quote was 3.25, which was 50 cents more than what it was last month....we'll go over budget."

Both Frenship and Lubbock I.S.D. have a 'no-idling' policy for their buses...and have made changes in routes to make them more efficient for fuel.
