Shots were fired on Monday at a local convenience store when a man tried to rob the business with a shotgun and the suspect is still on the loose.  It happened around 2 Monday afternoon at Wayne's Beer, Wine and Package Store on the Slaton Highway.  Authorities say the suspect fired at least 2 rounds inside the business and Texas Rangers are saying they believe it's the same man wanted for recent armed robberies in nearby counties.

Witnesses at Wayne's on Monday say around 2:00 p.m. the suspect walked into the store armed with a shot gun and ordered everyone inside to get down.  It appears a female clerk thought it was a joke and started to stand up and witnesses say that's when the robber said "This is serious," and fired one a shot into the floor.  Authorities say during the attempted robbery the suspect fired a second shot, but no one was seriously injured.  They tell us one employee got cut on the hand as he wrestled the gun away from the robber.  Surveillance video from Wayne's has not been released yet, but surveillance shots from a robbery in Amherst back in January and another in Sudan recently have been released.  Texas Rangers say the man in those videos is the same man that robbed Wayne's.   He is described as a young white man between 5'9" and 6' tall, weighing about 175 lbs. with a slim build.  He was last seen driving a mid 90's black and red pick-up with a chrome grill on the front.  If you have any information on who this suspect is or where he is, you're asked to call the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office at 775-1600.
