A record number of voters went to the polls during the Texas Primary; and many of them may have had a strategy in mind.

Lubbock is primarily Republican, but about 600 more votes were cast for the Democratic presidential candidates than for the Republican candidates.

Election officials say it could be one of two things:  the presidential race is very interesting for Democrats, so many more may have come out to vote; or some Republican voters voted for the democrat that would likely lose if they were up against John McCain in November.

Officials say you must stick with the party you voted with in the primary through April, in case there is a runoff.  But in November, you can vote for any candidate, regardless of party affiliation.
