Police say they now have 19-year-old Ricky Pena in custody. They had been searching for him for nearly 24-hours to question him in the shooting murder of a 40-year-old Lubbock man. The shooting happened just before midnight on Monday on the 500 Block of East 36th Street. Police say 40-year-old Joshua Sarate got out of his white Chrysler 300 and walked up to an older white car with tinted windows. Witnesses say Sarate started arguing with someone inside the car and that person opened fire. Sarate was hit in the stomach and later died from his injuries at UMC. Tuesday morning, police named Ricky Pena as a person of interest in the case, but are not calling him a suspect. KAMC 28 spoke with Pena's family and they say he admitted to them he shot the man, but it was in self defense. Police spent Tuesday trying to track Pena down and he turned himself in just after 10:00 Tuesday night. We'll keep you updated on any charges against Pena.
