The Lubbock police SWAT Team stormed a local apartment complex on Wednesday with their guns drawn, but they weren't after a criminal, they were perfecting their breaching techniques.
Each time the Lubbock SWAT Team heads out on assignment they put their lives at risk. They tell us hands-on training like they had on Wednesday gets them ready to handle any situation and keep themselves and the public safe.
The SWAT Team trained all afternoon at the soon-to-be demolished McDougal Intern Apartments at 3rd and Indiana. All 20 men were practicing shooting out doors and ramming them open to get certified in a certain breaching technique. Officers from the county SWAT team and the police department at Texas Tech trained with the LPD today and they all agree, training at real-life venues is the best way to perfect their skills.
There are 18 men on the LPD SWAT Team and right now most of them work patrol when they aren't handling SWAT situations, but we're told very soon most of those men will be going to work for SWAT full-time.
