Right now, the Texas Department of Public Safety offers an online registry to track registered sex offenders and where they live. And soon that'll also include where they work.

There are two new additions to the online registry. One, allowing folks to sign up for an email alert if a registered sex offender moves into their neighborhood. And the more controversial addition, posting the offenders employment information on the website.

The registry currently lists registered sex offenders by name, birthday, address, and a picture. DPS officials say in the coming months they will add the offender’s place of employment and job title. DPS says making this information public will be an additional tool to keep the community safe. But some argue it could make us less safe, keeping sex offenders from getting jobs, thus putting more on the streets.

Martin Aguirre with Work Source of the South Plains says it all comes down to the employer and making sure they match the applicant with an appropriate position. The new information should be added to the registry by June. Until then you can always click here , to go to Texas department of public safety website to see if a registered sex offender lives in your neighborhood.
