The Lubbock City Council voted in favor of building a $6.7 million Visitor Information Center on Thursday.  Council members approved the project six to one.  The project will be at the site of the old South Beach night club.

Those in favor of the center say it is a great way to attract visitors.  They say it may entice travelers to spend money shopping and dining in Lubbock; raising our sales tax revenue.  Those against the project say we could have found a more inexpensive way to do it.

The visitor's center will be funded by hotel tax revenue.

City council also voted in favor of the Sex Offender Ordinance which targets sex offenders convicted of crimes involving a minor.  The ordinance calls for such sex offenders to live at least 1,000 feet away from places kids gather.  The ordinance will have to go through one more vote.
