The win marks the third in a row for the Red Raiders as they improve to 15-12 on the season.  Texas A&M-Corpus Christi falls to 8-19.  The series finale between the two teams has been moved to 2 p.m. due to the Islanders’ evening travel plans.

The Red Raiders snapped a string of three straight games of allowing a run in the top of the first as Tech starter Russ Fornea put up the initial zero to get Tech off to a solid start.  In fact, Fornea put up five straight zeros to start the game before finally giving up a run in the top of the sixth.

Doug Thennis gave Tech the early lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout and then put the Red Raiders up 2-0 with another RBI groundout in third.  He finished with a game-high three RBIs and has now contributed nine in the last two games for the Red Raiders.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finally chased away Fornea in the top of the sixth and plated its only run of the game when Tech reliever Owen Brolsma hit Jacob Perales with the bases loaded and that allowed Bryan Gerondale to walk in from third.

The Tech offense came to life in the bottom half of the seventh as the Red Raiders tacked on four runs to grab a 6-1 lead.  Monk Kreder, Chris Hall and Thennis all delivered RBI singles in the inning.

Russ Fornea improved to 3-2 on the season as he earned the win.  He logged a season-high 5 2/3 innings and held the Islanders to just one run on four hits and struckout three.  Trey Hernandez (0-5) suffered the loss for TAMU-CC as he surrendered five runs on six hits and walked four over 6 1/3.
