UNITED SPIRIT ARENA - Bob Knight entered today`s game against Bucknell needing one win to tie Dean Smith for the all-time career win`s record. And the Red Raiders would come through for their coach today defeating Bucknell 72-60. The win gives Knight 879 for his career and forces Dean Smith to make room atop the career wins list. After the game Bob Knight had this to say about tying the milestone record:
"I`d like to have hit 62 home runs. Then I think I would`ve accomplished something," Knight said. "I hope those kids that played [for me] at Army back in `65, I hope some of them watched the game today and can look at themselves or their grandchildren and can say, `I was there when that son of a bitch started.`"
The Red Raiders next take the court on Thursday at 8:00 PM from the United Spirit Arena where they will take on UNLV. If Bob Knight and the Red Raiders are victorious over the Running Rebels then Bob Knight will assume sole ownership of the career wins record with 880.
