Visitor Center Plan will stay on track.

Councilmen Todd Klein and John Leonard's attempt to kill the roughly $7 million visitor center project failed in a 5-2 vote Thursday. Klein and Leonard said they just can't support the high price tag. Councilwoman Linda DeLeon attacked Klein by saying if he wanted to lower the cost on the visitor center that he should also work to lower the cost of the new animal shelter.
Klein is a big supporter of the animal shelter and retorted that the shelter is an issue of public health.
"It detracts form the real issue which is how do we spend the public's money, and that's unfortunate," said Klein in response to DeLeon's comments.
Opponents to the project walked away with a small victory, however.
Councilman Jim Gilbreath was able to pass an amendment capping the cost of the visitor center at $5.9 million.
