Local Businesses React to Stimulus Checks

Local businesses react to taxpayers receiving economic stimulus checks.

The first of the direct deposit economic stimulus checks arrived on Monday.  And lots of local businesses are hoping tax payers will put all that money to good use.  Business owners say they hope Lubbock residents will spend the money locally, putting money back into our own economy.

"Depending on Lubbock's reaction, I think they will.  You know, if they decide to spend locally, I think it would be great for the community, I think it'll be great for us and all the other local businesses that are out there that really support Lubbock when it boils down to it,” says Stephen Spieglberg, owner of Chrome, a Lubbock boutique.

According to the IRS, the money you receive for the economic stimulus program will not affect the amount of money you will owe or receive when filing next year.
