PLAINVIEW, Texas: Wayland Baptist’s Trevor Stringer has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 21-27.

A freshman from Lubbock, Stringer accomplished what no other SAC pitcher has done this season – beat top-ranked Lubbock Christian University.  He scattered nine hits in 8-2/3 innings, allowing only one extra base hit in the 7-1 Pioneer victory over the Chaps on their home field Saturday night.  Stringer struck out 10, walked just one, and came within one out of pitching a complete game shutout.

LCU, which led the NAIA in runs scored with a 10.4/gm average, had scored at least 9 runs in 11 consecutive games prior to being held to just one run by Stringer.  It was just the second time all year the Chaps had been held to one run or less
