First class postage is now 42 cents for a standard letter. Postal officials say the driving factor in price increases is fuel costs.
Denise Warner of the United States Postal Service says they have the largest civilian vehicle fleet in the world, and when fuel prices go up one penny, that raises their costs by roughly $15 million.
This weekend, fuel prices went up by almost 14 cents at some gas station around Lubbock.
Warner says postal customers can most likely expect postal increases for the next several years.
