In the wake of Monday's assault where police say a husband beat his wife nearly to death, the folks over at Women's Protective Services are urging victims of abuse to come forward before it's too late.

On Monday morning, police found an Oklahoma woman severly beaten and sexually assaulted inside the Motel 6 here in Lubbock.  They arrested her husband, 37-year-old Arthur Dean Swagger, for the crime.  Police say there is a history of domestic abuse.   Roy Rios with WPS says many times women stay in abusive relationships for financial reasons or a desire to keep the family together, and that's a very dangerous choice to make. Rios says, "If you're being abused by your partner, please seek help because this could be you. You could be murdered at any time and your children could witness that."

If you need help out of an abusive relationship call WPS at 748-5292.  They offer financial and legal support and counseling services.
