An overnight shooting leaves one man in critical condition.
It happened around 3:45 Wednesday morning at 301 Avenue U at the Cora Apartments.
Police arrived and found 39-year old Felipe Acevedo shot in the head.
Witnesses say Acevedo woke-up last night when he heard a noise outside.
He then saw two men breaking into his car and began tapping on the glass to scare the burglars off.
That's when a man turned and fired several shots into the window with a large caliber handgun.
Neighbors say burglaries are increasingly common at those apartments.
"It's kinda scary," said Elvira Gonzales, a neighbor.
"That's why I wake up every ten to fifteen minutes to check the windows to make sure nobody is coming in."
"We hope it will not turn into a homicide, but it very well could," said Captain Greg Stevens, of the Lubbock Police Department.
"It's a horrible thing that the individual was confronting someone who was committing a misdemeanor offense and it has turned into a tragedy. Hopefully we can avoid that if people will call 911 and let the police come out and deal with it."
The shooter and other suspect were seen driving driving a White Dodge Stratus.
