Fire Destroys East Lubbock Home

"I'm kinda homeless right now because of this," said Rayford Nichols Jr.
Deep inside, Nichols admits, he feels a little lucky.
He escaped the blaze with what matters most, his life.
"I feel good that he got out of there," said his father, Rayford Nichols Sr.
"We can replace the material things but I didn't want to lose a son."
The overnight fire destroyed Nichols's trailer house, his personal belongings, and about twenty old cars.
"What we were going to do is take these old cars. We kinda have a hobby of fixing up old cars, and sell them," said Nichols Sr.
Nichols Jr. says the fire began in his kitchen, and within seconds spread throughout the trailer.
He had trouble calling 911, so by the time firefighters arrived, it was too late.
Idalou, Roosevelt, and Ransom Canyon firefighters spent more then two hours battling the wind to extinguish the flames.
Now, a father and son say all they can do is start over.
"He lost everything, shoes, clothes, everything. Now we just try to do better."
