Delivery Dilemma

At delivery places like One Guy's pizza, the high cost of gas is not only making your pizza a little more expensive -- It's costing the restaurant's employees.

The price of gas could cost employees up to 2 hours worth of pay.

With trips back and forth across Lubbock, it's easy to burn through your tank.

“Right now, with $4 a gallon, this car, I’ll put maybe $20 in it before I come to work,” said Braun Sumner, who delivers for One Guy’s.  “On a Friday night you know, we're pretty busy, so tip money, it's decent, but I might make $10 in tips and have to put $30 in my car.

One Guy’s pizza is just one of the companies that are having trouble with making gas prices and paying employees equally.

Summertime is normally when restaurants see an increase in job applicants.

But restaurant managers everywhere are trying to fill the driver’s seat, and keep their employees well paid.

"You get a certain wage, and then you run deliveries, they get tips and the tips sort of help out a little bit,” said One Guy’s Pizza manager David Wragg.  “But as far as right now they're pretty much breaking even, with gas prices and things like that.  But we pay them pretty good wages; we have to, to keep them in the restaurant.  Otherwise if they aren't making any money they'll go somewhere else."

Wragg also suggests that the next time you order in, you may want to re-think that tip.

It could be worth more than just pocket change.
