LP&L Rate Increase

lpl12007-05-24-1180041616.jpgThursday, the Lubbock city council approved a rate structure change for the power company.  But what does this mean for you?

The average residential household now pays about $83 dollars per month.  The rate increase, which takes affect June 1st, would increase your bill by almost $3 dollars.

This is the first increase since 1986 and LP&L officials say customers shouldn't worry because they still provide some of the best rates in the state.

"Dallas/Ft Worth metro-plex, they're paying $140 dollars, reliant in Houston, they're paying in the one-teens, and in El Paso they're paying in the one-teens, so you can see that at $80-90 dollars, in West Texas, we really do have great electric prices" says Chris Sims with LP&L.

Despite the increase, there is some good news.  Customers may actually see a drop in their bill in October after LP&L drops an extra fuel charge.
