A lightning strike turned into a devastating house fire in Hockley County Monday night. Richard Edwards was home with his grandkids around 10:30 p.m. when a lightning strike from thunderstorms hit his home on Bearcat Road. The lightning caught fire in the corner of the attic and spread to the rest of the home. Edwards and the kids were able to escape the burning home unharmed. Fire crews rushed to the home to try and save it, but a shortage of water and strong winds were too much, making the home a complete loss. Today the Edwards family searched through the charred remains, but found very little left. "Everything in the house is just destroyed. Aint nothing we can do about it now but go on," says the owner of the home, Richard Edwards. He says his parents live close by, and they may have to move in with them until they can tear down and rebuild the house.
